About

The main purpose of the political movement Coexistentia – Soužití is the consistent assertion of the rights of ethnic minorities living in Czechia.  The movement was established in Slovakia by the politician of Hungarian ethnicity Miklós Duray shortly after the Revolution in 1989. Gaining independence after the disintegration of the Czechoslovak federation, the Czech branch of the movement is active to this day. The movement has a bigger impact in the region of Moravia and Silesia, particularly in the villages with Polish inhabitants, where it has several municipal representatives.

The Hungarian part of the movement initiated the Commemorative Committee movement for the sake of János Esterházy, a prominent Hungarian politician of the inter-war period. The aim of the committee is to achieve rehabilitation for the politician, who is still officially considered a war criminal. He was sentenced to death, but the sentence was later commuted to a life imprisonment. He died in 1957 in the Mírov prison and has been rehabilitated neither in Prague nor in Bratislava to this day.
